Innovation

Over the years, I have worked with many companies from one-day consultancy projects through to collaborative R&D and PhD programmes.

In March 2017, I teamed up with Dr Barbu at the University to expand industrial/commercial work in various innovation areas in the form of the Biomaterials Research Laboratory. A flyer containing details of the services offered can be found on that page.


Examples of work include assessing defects in contact lens manufacture, changes in frictional properties of hair due to a cosmetic product, fundamental hair science, thermal conductivity measurements, assessing polyurethane properties after isocyanate raw material change, and increasing the lifetime of deepsea transcontinental cable connectors.

Equipment available: atomic force microscopy (AFM), live cell imaging, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy, thermal analysis (TGA, DSC), contact angle goniometry, particle sizing, spray drying, texture analysis, mechanical testing and much more.
